The Emily Center at Phoenix Children's Hospital presents “Nuestro Camino y la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal,” an invaluable tool designed to equip families of children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with essential information to safely manage their care at home.

Families often find themselves overwhelmed during hospital visits when medical professionals communicate using complex medical terminology. While healthcare workers may believe they are conveying information clearly, they might fail to ensure that patients and their families truly understand. One effective way to confirm comprehension is when families can articulate the information shared with them in their own words.

The “Nuestro Camino y la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal” application has been thoughtfully developed to:

• Assist parents in understanding the critical knowledge necessary for providing safe care at home.
• Offer a platform for parents to acknowledge uncertainties and pose questions regarding their child’s condition.

The Emily Center honors the legacy of Emily Anderson, who bravely battled a rare form of leukemia for four years before passing just days short of her 17th birthday. Established in 1990 by parents frustrated by the lack of easily understandable information regarding their daughter's illness, The Emily Center aims to ensure that families of children facing health challenges have access to accurate, comprehensible, and free pediatric health information—accessible not only in Arizona but beyond.
